What happens to a JPG photo when it goes into a PDF?
JPG is what phones and cameras write by default, so the pile you want to send as one file (a signed form, a stack of receipts, both sides of an ID card) is almost always JPG. This page puts each photo on its own PDF page in the order you choose. PNG files are accepted too, so a screenshot can sit between photos in the same document.
The JPEG data is handed to pdf-lib unchanged. Nothing redraws the photo on a canvas first, so this tool adds no extra compression pass of its own. One thing it does not do is read the EXIF orientation tag, so a photo that only looks upright in your gallery because of that tag deserves a quick look after conversion. 'Original size' makes each page as many PDF points as the photo has pixels; A4 or Letter centres the photo on a fixed sheet and shrinks it to fit, but never blows a small photo up.

How to convert JPG to PDF

JPG to PDF limits and edge cases
- Up to 40 images per PDF. Files beyond the 40th are dropped and a notice says only the first 40 were kept; convert in two rounds if you have more.
- JPEG files are embedded without being re-encoded, and nothing in this tool reads the EXIF orientation tag. If a photo looks sideways in the result, rotate it in your photo app and re-export it, or fix the finished PDF with Rotate PDF.
- Only JPG, JPEG and PNG are accepted on this page. A PNG you add keeps whatever transparency it has, because this page has no white-fill switch; PNG to PDF has one.
- 'Original size' maps one pixel to one PDF point, so a 4000 by 3000 pixel photo becomes a page of about 55.6 by 41.7 inches. Pick A4 or Letter when you want something you can print.
- A4 and Letter pages are always portrait. A landscape photo is scaled to the page width and left with blank space above and below; it is not rotated.
Frequently asked questions
Does turning a JPG into a PDF lower the photo quality?
This tool does not re-compress it. The JPEG bytes go into the PDF as they are, without a canvas redraw in between. Any quality loss you see comes from the photo itself or from how a viewer scales it.
Why is one of my photos sideways in the PDF?
The tool does not apply the EXIF orientation tag that many phones use to mark a rotated shot. Rotate the photo in your gallery or editor and save it again before converting, or run the finished PDF through Rotate PDF.
Can JPG and PNG go into the same PDF?
Yes. Both formats are accepted, and each file becomes one page in queue order. A PNG's transparency is not flattened here, so use PNG to PDF if you need a white background.
What is the difference between Original size and A4?
Original size makes each page exactly as large as its photo, measured in points. A4 and Letter use a fixed portrait sheet, centre the photo on it, shrink it if it is too big, and leave it at its own size if it already fits. A4 and Letter also offer a margin of none, 0.25 in or 0.5 in.
How many photos can one PDF hold?
Forty. The queue stops at 40 images, so a bigger set needs two conversions.
