What hidden information does a PDF carry?

Editing works the same way: change any field in the form — correct a misspelled author name, add keywords for a document management system, or rewrite the Subject line — and click Update Metadata & Download to save just those changes without touching the PDF's pages, images, or text. Leaving a field blank and saving removes that entry from the file entirely rather than storing an empty value, so a cleared field stays genuinely cleared instead of quietly persisting as an empty string.

PDF Metadata Editor limits and edge cases
- Only the eight standard Info-dictionary fields are read and written: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, Creation date and Modification date. If a file also stores metadata in a separate XMP stream, as some applications do, PDFBell does not read or change it, so Clear All Metadata may not remove everything another tool displays.
- Dates are stored as a date only. A date you enter is saved at 00:00 UTC, so the original time of day is not kept; a blank date field removes the entry.
- A blank field deletes that entry from the file rather than writing an empty value.
- Keywords are saved as one free-text string, exactly as typed.
- Names stored elsewhere in the file, such as the author of a comment or annotation, are not touched.
- A PDF that needs a password to open is rejected. A PDF that opens without a password but carries editing restrictions (a permissions password) is also refused with a clear message, because PDFBell cannot decrypt files and the saved copy would come out blank or unreadable; remove the restriction in the app that created it, then try again.

What does Clear All Metadata actually remove?
It deletes the Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, Creation date, and Modification date entries from the PDF's Info dictionary entirely — not just blank them out.
Does editing metadata change my PDF's content?
No. Only the Info dictionary fields are touched; every page, image, and piece of text in the document stays exactly as it was.
Does Clear All Metadata remove everything hidden in the PDF?
It clears the eight standard Info fields. It does not touch a separate XMP metadata stream if the file has one, or names stored inside comments and annotations, so treat it as a first step rather than a guarantee of anonymity.
Can I set the exact time a PDF was created or modified?
Only the date. The date fields take a day without a time, and the value is saved at 00:00 UTC.
What happens if I leave a field blank?
That entry is removed from the file instead of being stored as an empty value, so what you see in the form is exactly what ends up in the saved PDF.
